Construction Management Students Competed in the “Battle in Seattle”

Last Tuesday, two UW Department of Construction Management teams competed at the annual NWCCC (Northwest Construction Consumer Council) Student Bid Competition, affectionately known as the “Battle in Seattle”.

The teams were assigned a real project and had only 10 days to submit a proposal, an estimate, a schedule, a site logistics plan, and a safety plan.  They prepared a presentation and delivered it to a panel of judges and an audience of corporate members at the Museum of Flight.

The “UW Builders” team, led by Jacob Guenther, hit the estimate spot on and correctly selected a mobile crane option for construction. The “UW Construction Company” team, led by Anik Das, was recognized for their innovative ideas that included an onsite concrete batch plant and a QR code inventory tracking system.

The UW teams did not win first place but were highly commended by the judges for their hard work and good presentations.
