University of Washington Real Estate (UWRE) provides comprehensive real estate services to the University in support of the University’s mission of teaching, research and community service. The University’s real property services requirements are extensive and include leasing office, laboratory, clinic, residential, and industrial space in the greater Seattle area; managing significant commercial real estate holdings in downtown Seattle; campus property acquisitions; and the provision of auxiliary services via retail leases, international leasing, managing access to owned property, processing real estate gifts, and the sale of surplus property.


  • October/November 2016 to June 2017
  • 15-20 hours per week
  • Potential for up to full-time during breaks


Put classroom skills to work on real projects in the context of a major real estate services operation while learning about property and project management services in the real estate industry. Position Reports to Property Services Manager.


Project Management (40%)

Support property services team as they work with architects, designers and engineers on planning and budgeting TI’s, renovations and major repairs and maintenance. Provide support and communication between landlords, contractors, UW tenants, and UWRE during construction, helping to keep projects on schedule and on budget.

Tenant Services (40%)

Assess general building condition and suitability for potential University occupancy pursuant to lease negotiations and coordinate with other University or outside property inspectors as needed. Perform Move-In/Move-Out condition reports for leased facilities. Support invoicing process for tenant-requested services to ensure landlord is paid in a timely manner.  Work with UWRE Accounting staff to reconcile and respond to inquiries from University departments regarding existing or proposed building operation charges.

Property Management (15%)

Support property services team to hire , manage, and review 3rd party property managers on UW owned property and master leased property. Help manage property managers in properties where UW is a tenant.

Administration (5%)

Support administrative functions as needed.


  • Current enrollment as a senior or graduate student in Construction Management at start of internship
  • Exemplary customer service skills
